From Russian Realism, a movement eminente, que criticó y se comprometió con la realidad que acontecía a mediados del siglo XIX ; surge un autor trascendente de la Literatura Universal: León Tolstoi , quien nos deja un legado magistral –entre otros- con el cuento largo o relato corto –ambas catalogaciones son correctas- “La muerte de Iván Ilich ”.
Sumergirse en esta historia es aproximarse a la subsistencia de un paciente condenado a muerte, que se halla inmerso en comodidades y recursos reservados propios de su descollada clase social. No obstante, tales privilegios son obsoletos ante el mal mortal y tremebundo del que es víctima. Iván Ilich is the embodiment of the officials of the Russian gentry nineteenth century . But this character is framed not only in this superficial level, but, Toltoi in paragraphs enlightening, reveals his psychology:
